The Board of Directors consists of a non-executive Chairman (Mr Howard Stack), and four non-executive Directors (Mr Andrew Davies, Dr Philip Dubois, Dr Charles Ho and Mr Justin Schaffer). These Directors bring a broad range of public company experience, start-up and manufacturing experience, expertise in diagnostic imaging (including practicing radiologists from Australia and the US), as well as extensive technological understanding of MRI.
Non-Executive Chairman -– Howard Stack (BA, LLB)
Mr Stack is a leading professional corporate director with significant experience in high growth corporations. He has also served as Chairman of Australian National Industries, Data #3 Limited, Southern Cross Pumps and Irrigation, Voxson Limited, and Eastern Corporation Limited, and as a director of Waratah Coal Inc.. He presently serves as Chairman of Bow Energy Limited and as a director of Diversified Mining Services Limited.
Mr Stack was a partner in the Brisbane based commercial law firm Feez Ruthning from 1969, and its Managing Partner from 1992 until its merger with Allen Allen and Hemsley in 1996. He retired from Allens in 2001. He has also been Chairman of Brisbane Grammar School Board of Trustees since 1991, and served as a Director of Queensland Events Corporation.
Non-Executive Director - Andrew Davis (BSc(Hons) MBA MAICD)
Mr Davis is General Manager, Technology Commercialisation for UniQuest Pty Limited, where he is responsible for the commercialisation of technologies developed in the field of Physical Sciences and Engineering, including those developed by the University of Queensland’s Centre for Magnetic Resonance and Biomedical Engineering Group. He has over 20 years experience in technology venture management and financing and manages UniQuest’s existing MRI technology licenses to GE Medical Systems and Siemens. He also chairs UniQuest’s Patent Committee which has approximately 150 patent families under management. He is a director of a number of venture companies, with operations spanning biomedical engineering, manufacturing, and immunotherapy development.
Non-Executive Director - Dr Philip Dubois (MBBS FRCR FRACR FAICD) (Radiologist)
Dr Dubois is a neuro-radiologist and nuclear imaging specialist. He is Chairman and CEO of Queensland X-Ray, a Director of Sonic Healthcare Ltd, Chairman of the Sonic Imaging Executive and a member of their Risk Management Committee. As the author of over fifty scientific publications, he has been a speaker at many national and international conferences in the field of diagnostic radiology.
Dr Dubois is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Queensland Medical School and has represented his profession on numerous government and craft group committees. He is also Vice-President of the Australian Diagnostic Imaging Association (ADIA), a Councillor and the National Radiology Craft Group Representative of the Australian Medical Association (AMA).
Non-Executive Director - Dr Charles Ho (MD PhD) (Radiologist)
Dr Ho is currently Director of Imaging Research at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado, and also serves on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Institute. He has served as Regional Medical Advisor to the USA/VISA Decathlon Team, and as radiologic consultant to high-profile sports organizations, including the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, US Ski Team, Cleveland Indians, the Colorado Rockies, and the Denver Broncos.
Dr Ho has published and presented over 300 articles, book chapters, and conference papers, many of them relating to the application of musculoskeletal and sports medicine MRI and has worked with MRI systems developers assisting in specification and proto-type testing.
He is a resident of the United States, and a graduate of MIT with a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from MIT, and of Stanford University with a Ph D in electrical engineering and an MD from Stanford.
Non-Executive Director - Justin Schaffer (BEng(Hons) MBA)
Justin Schaffer joined the Magnetica Board as a Non-Executive Director in July 2008. Mr Schaffer has a depth of business experience internationally, as a Chairman, Executive Director and CEO of numerous large organisations. He is familiar with technology start-ups and has founded and run several successful high-tech companies. He is a Non-Executive Director for a number of high-tech start up companies in South East Queensland.
Early in his career, as a shareholder and CEO of Duropenta Plastics, he built the company to become the largest plastics manufacturer in South Africa. As CEO when this business was sold to AECI Ltd, he set up a Joint Venture with French and Israeli partners to establish a Drip Irrigation business in Spain and U.S.A.
As CEO of South African Nylon Spinners Ltd. Mr Schaffer grew the company to become the largest producer of nylon and polyester yarns, fibres and PET polymer in the southern hemisphere and one of the most profitable synthetic fibre businesses in the world. Later in his career Mr Schaffer ran, re-structured and restored profitability to the Frame Group. In 1993 he and four partners started Tracker Network Ltd, a stolen vehicle recovery business using technology from LoJack Corp., USA. The company now has sales revenues exceeding A$500million p.a. He and his partners continue to serve as non-executive directors.
